14 séance avec débat
John, le président de notre association, a reçu
d’une de ses connaissances vierzonnaises, Nadia, des informations étonnantes
qui créent un lien entre notre ville et les Etat-Unis. Nadia se déclare prête à
jouer le jeu de la promotion du film, fait part de sa disponibilité. Nous
espérons qu’elle pourra être présente à notre séance où nous l’invitons avec
plaisir.
Comme te l'a indiqué Francis [de
Palestine 18], Waleed Zuaiter, qui a déjà un bon parcours dans le
cinéma, et qui joue dans "Omar" [il en
est même le second acteur aussitôt après Adam Bakri, et il est aussi producteur du film] , est le fils de ma cousine. Sa mère avait émigré
aux Etats-Unis alors que mon père allait en Afrique. Mais nous sommes restés en
lien. C'est en parlant à sa mère au téléphone qu'elle m'apprend la sortie du
film, sachant que nous avons une association Palestine 18. Et Waleed m'a écrit
également pour me demander de faire la promo du film, qui est très très bien
accueilli par les critiques mais qui peine un peu dans les salles.
Notre
blog est bien modeste, et son rayonnement limité ne permettra pas de promouvoir
autant qu’il le mériterait le film que nous proposons cette semaine. Néanmoins,
c’est avec plaisir encore une fois que nous accueillons largement ici tout ce qui peut contribuer à mieux le faire connaître.
Dear Cousin Nadia!
Omar is the first film that my
brothers and I (ZBROS) produced, and we have experienced exceptional responses
from audiences and critics alike. After winning the Jury Prize in Cannes
this past May Omar had a successful North American premiere at the Toronto
International Film Festival where we picked up our US distributor.
Shortly following TIFF, Omar opened to rave reviews for it's US premiere
at the prestigious New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center. We had a
successful UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, securing a very
reputable distributor there. We are now preparing for the Middle East premiere to be held in
December at the Dubai International Film Festival. Omar is also the
official selection from Palestine for the Oscars this year!
We are very happy for the critical
success Omar has received thus far, BUT we are more focused now on it's
commercial success to match the critical success. France is probably the biggest market for foreign
language films, so we are committed to make Omar a commercial success in France
so that we and our investors can continue to make compelling and high quality
films.
So far, our box office figures in
France have been rather disappointing… So our distributor (Pretty Pictures) urged us to really
get the word-of-mouth campaign going in France, with a much stronger push.
Otherwise, we may be at risk for screening at fewer theaters.
Can you please help us in this
regard? Do you know any extensive networks that can help get the word out
about the film? We are not just focused on Arab audiences, we need to get
to the wider mainstream audiences in France… If everyone you know sees the movie and tells at
least 5 friends to go see it, this can be a start. But, we really need to
make a bigger grassroots effort because with all films like Omar, their
commercial success is influenced almost 100% by word-of-mouth recommendations.
